- Is there a common thread and a local community sense in action?
Answers:
Q.1
Online community can be defined as a collection of people, often trespassing the geographical boundaries that share a common goal or objective. In todays era of internet technologies being the primary delivery medium for those attached to such community when referring to an online community we usually associate it with social networking sites or portals. There are also project that go beyond user interactions in a typical sense and introduce an artificial element to this phenomenon e.g. Second Life, a virtual world where users join a community of 3D avatars to improvise their life shopping, dating, socialize, participate in group's activities etc. Traditionally though online community refers to social networking, chats, forums and any other form of virtual interaction through the internet medium.
Q.2
The common thread and a local community sense exist in majority of the web technologies that support, facilitate or provide users with sandpit for social interactions. Regardless of which popular site we go to there is a mesh of links and references to other websites or portals that link and connects users to their peers or friends.
